Design business process hierarchy

Design the business process hierarchy of your solution. The business process hierarchy reflects the generic business processes for a typical target company for your solution. In the business process hierarchy, you can use these types of nodes:

  • Value chain
  • Supporting processes
  • Phase
  • Group
  • Process
  • Scenario
  • Activity

This flow represents the advised sequence in which the business process hierarchy is designed. If required, you can of course design the business process hierarchy in another sequence.

Before you record a scenario or a process, usually, you first assign a procedure activity to the relevant business process.

If you want to:
  • Model a scenario, you assign the procedure activity to a business process of type Scenario.
  • Record a process, you can assign the procedure activity to any business process. Usually, this is a business process to which no flow is assigned.
You can assign procedure activities to a business process in several ways:
  • Assign an existing activity as procedure activity.
  • Create and assign a new activity as procedure activity. By default, this activity is of type Scenario.
  • Assign a copy of an existing activity as procedure activity.

If you have recorded a flow, the steps of the related procedure activity can cover several sub activities. You can link procedure activity steps to existing or new activities.

You can also add procedure activity steps to a sub activity or replace the sub activity steps with procedure activity steps.

Start Start Create flow based on procedure activity Create flow based on procedure activity If you have recorded a process, and linked the procedure activity steps to sub activities, you can create a flow. Each assigned sub activity is added to the flow in the sequence of the steps to which these sub activities are assigned. On creation, the flow is automatically assigned to the related business process. Procedure 1. Click Business process modeling. 2. Click the Business processes tab. 3. Click Edit hierarchy. 4. In the tree, select 'a node with a procedure activity assigned'. Note: For this procedure activity, the steps must be recorded, and sub activities must be linked to these steps. 5. Click the Procedure tab. 6. Click Create flow to open the drop dialog. 7. In the Flow field, type a value. 8. In the Description field, type a value. 9. If you want to add the flow to an existing process, define a process. In the Process field, enter or select a value. Note: If you don't define a process, a process is created with the defined flow name. 10. Click OK. Does the  business process  already exist? Does the  business process  already exist? Click Task guide. 7. Click Record. 8. On the Task recorder, review the Recording name and Recording description. 9. Click Start to start the recording of the steps. 10. Record the steps. Note: Consider to use sub-tasks for separate activities in the scenario or process. Sub-tasks enhance the overview and readability of such a long task recording. 11. If you have recorded all desired steps, on the Task recorder, click Stop. 12. Click Save to RapidValue. Notes From RapidValue you can record and play task guides, either directly within the current environment or in a remote D365 FO environment.
