For each master data entity, you can define which records are master records. To make a master data entity record a master record, subscribe it to a company. If a master data entity record has a subscription to a company, the record is defined as master data for that company.

Standard procedure

1. Click Master data management - Setup.
2. Click the Master data entities tab.
3. In the list, find and select the desired master data entity.
4. To open the list of records for the selected master data entity, click Available records.

Note: The fields that are shown, are defined in the Display fields section of the master data entity. You can use these fields to find and select the desired record.

5. In the list, find and select the desired record.
6. Click Add to master records.
7. Choose the companies to which you want to subscribe the master data entity record. You can select companies and target groups as defined in the company setup.
On the dialog, in the list, select the desired companies
8. Click OK.

Note: As a result, the selected companies are added to the subscriptions of the master data entity record.

9. Refresh the page.
10. Close the page.

Notes

As a data steward of the source company, you can also define master records directly from a D365 FO record page.

For example, if you have defined a master data entity for the VendTable, on the vendors pages, you can define a vendor as master record. To do so, for example:
  1. Go to the All vendors page.
  2. Find and select the desired vendor.
  3. On the Action pane, on the Master data management tab, click Add to master records.
  4. On the dialog, in the list, select the desired companies.
  5. Click OK.
