You can use attributes to further describe a product and its characteristics with user-defined fields. You can also set up engineering attributes and assign them to product versions or variants separately.

You set up engineering attributes to:

  • Define additional properties for a version.
Before you can set up engineering attributes, you must set up the relevant attribute types and engineering attribute grouping. Use this grouping to subdivide engineering attributes into logical and meaningful groups. At least one group is required to be able to set up engineering attributes.
  • Enable attribute-based product naming.
You can use the engineering attributes to configure the product number, product name, and product description. If you do so, on creation of the product, you must set the engineering attribute values. As a result, the product number, product name, and product description are set automatically, based on these attribute values.
  • Enable searching products based on engineering attributes.
If you create products with engineering attributes and attribute-based naming, you can use those attributes also for searching purposes

In the Group field, enter or select a value. 5. In the Name field, enter or select a value. 6. Enter the default value of the engineering attribute. In the Value field, type a value. Note: This value can be changed when a product is released. 7. Select this check box if the engineering attribute always must have a value for related products. 8. Select this check box if you want to use the engineering attribute like it is a batch attribute. A batch attribute is a characteristic of the inventory of a raw material or finished product where the batch dimension is active. Batch attributes and their values can be used with quality tests to determine whether your products meet quality specifications. 9. Select this check box for attributes that can be inherited to higher levels in the BOM. So, if a BOM line product has an attribute with an important value, this is also known on higher levels in the BOM. The attribute can, for example, be a toxic component. This is a default setting and you can change it on the engineering version of a product. 10. Close the page. Notes Use the Up and Down arrow to rearrange the order of the engineering attributes.
