Use origins to indicate where messages originate from. For example, a message can originate from EDI, a web shop, or a customer self-service portal.
In the search for the applicable document flow, the origin of the message plays a key role. The document flow setting on the origin defines which document flows can be searched for:
- Customer document flows.
- Customer and legal entity document flows.
- Vendor document flows.
This setup only applies to messages that you receive from a customer or a vendor. So, in case of 3PL, origins aren't used.
The origin plays a role in several key elements in the process of receiving messages:
- In each message, the origin is set.
- For each EDI party, you can define the applicable origin.
- For each document flow, you can define to which origin it applies.
- If you use staging, for each journal validation, you can define to which origin it applies.
